Justin Smith - Friend of Troopers Hill

On Monday we received the shocking and very sad news that Justin Smith had died at the weekend. Those of you that have been on our fungi forays will remember Justin very well. He was a larger than life figure who made everything he talked about interesting and enjoyable.
Justin was involved right at the start of Friends of Troopers Hill. 10 years ago he stood in Rob and Susan's living room giving a tools talk to future work party leaders, telling us what and what not to do with various very sharp implements.

Justin was due to contribute to Shepherd's Way, a natured themed radio show on BCFM this Wednesday. A short tribute was aired. It was followed by a recording of Justin himself, made for the Troopers Hill Audio Trail, talking about one of the fungi on the Hill, fly agaric. Justin is a great loss to Bristol and the surrounding areas. His enthusiasm for fungi and lichen has inspired many people in the area. His practical approach to solving problems in his Woodland and Wildlife Officer role meant a great deal of effective work was carried out. We will miss him. Our sympathy to his wife, Lucy, their son, Wilf and all his family and friends.
