Scarlet Tiger on Troopers Hill

--- Posting from our now closed Forum ---
No, not a dangerous feline but a day flying moth. What is a little strange is that it is supposed to like damp habitats like "a variety of wetland and coastal habitats, including fens, riverine habitats, floodplains and the upper parts of beaches. " See http://tinyurl.com/redtigermoth. When it spreads its wings to fly you see the scarlet that gives it its name.

Seen 2/7/2011 at around 1pm among the bracken near the start of the gully path from the Greendown entrance. It is not listed in any of our existing invertebrate surveys, see http://www.troopers-hill.org.uk/moth.htm
