Old Photographs of Troopers Hill
Set L
Troopers Hill/St Anne's Board Mills on 4th Sept 1977
by Mike Beale

These views were sent to us by Mike in response to an article requesting old photographs of Troopers Hill published in the Bristol Industrial Archaeological Society (BIAS) Bulletin in Spring 2022.

Looking towards Troopers Hill from south of the river. You can see stacks of wood pulp in the foreground and then the Tar Works beyond, with Troopers Hill behind. It is interesting to compare this view with these photographs of Troopers Hill in the 1960s. The quaries on the side of the Hill were filled with building ruble in the intervening years and you can see that by 1977 scrub and woodland was starting to develop.

The chimney on the corner of Troopers Hill Road & Crews Hole, note the old style street light.

This chimney had extensive repair work carried out in 2013, as described here.
